re: the last item (learn new things), please remember that the new hotness does not mean it is better. Just because big-ass-company.com created something does not mean it is the best thing. Look at alternatives to the approach and you may discover that what they have "innovated" has been in circulation for over a decade in a different (and possibly better) form, but was just never well-marketed.
